Central Manufacturing Technology Institute an autonomous body located at Bangalore is registered as a society. It is governed by a council whose members are drawn from Government bodies, Machine Tool Manufacturing and User Industries, both in private and public sector.

The Institute renders technical assistance to machine tool and other engineering industries in the areas of Design, Development and Standardisation in the area of Machine Tools, Attachments Accessories and Control Systems, Research and Investigation in Manufacturing Technology, Prototype Testing and Evaluation, TQM Services, Development Testing and Evaluation, CNC/CAD/CAM/FMS/CIM, Computer Software, Robotics, Precision Engineering, Measurement and Calibration, Technical Information Services and Training.
